400m Swim – 16 lengths of the pool – 5 lanes – maximum of 3 per lane
Go to the Womens' changing room for leg marking and receipt of timing chip.
Move on to the briefing area 10
minutes before your start time
On completion of the race briefing
wait in the briefing area until
Do not enter the water until told to

Lane counters will warn when you
have 2 lengths to go and tell you on completion of all 16. Their decision is final
Leave via the emergency exit
Take care – the floors in the pool
may be slippery when wet – the steps down from the emergency exit are
relatively narrow and steep. Carpet will be laid to make it easier to cross
Swim to Bike
Transition – see map for layout
the indicated route from the pool to the gate -
observe instructions given by the gate marshal – continue to bike
Change into cycling kit – put on and
fasten helmet before removing bike from rack (penalties for infringements)
Push the bike along the “out” route
and go through the bike out gate to Pool Drive – continue on foot to Mount
Remember that total nudity when
changing is banned and can result in disqualification
TEAMS - follow above procedures, except that the
cyclist stands by the bike in the race with
helmet fastened wearing the race number on their back. Bike must remain in
the rack until the swimmer has passed the TIMING CHIP to the cyclist,
who pushes the bike until the Mount Now sign is reached

right onto Beach Road
Shortly afterwards turn left turn from Beach Road onto the A496
IMORTANT NOTE: the
2 junctions at at Beach Road (numbered as 4, 5, 10 and 11) will be controlled by
Professional Traffic Managers who will stop cars to give priority
to cyclists. At ALL other
junctions cyclists must follow the normal rules of the road.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT IT IS SAFE TO PROCEED. MARSHALS ARE PRESENT
TO SEE THAT YOU FOLLOW THE RULES AND THAT YOU TRAVEL IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
Proceed along the A496 to Glan-y-Wern then turn right onto the B4573. This
road is closed to normal traffic but be aware that a residents are permitted
to use the road for access.
Follow the B4573
up the hill to Harlech
As you approach the
cross roads in the centre of Harlech follow the cones and marshalls
instructions to complete a 180o turn
and return down the hill. When descending the hill you are not permittied to
cross the centre of the road
Turn left at Glan-y-Wern
onto the A496
Return to Harlech
and turn right into Beach Road
Turn Left into the Pool
Dismount when instructed and use the gate to return to transition
Any rider exceeding the speed limit or crossing the central white line will be
There are parts of the route, where
extra care is required. It is vital that you follow the safety advice given
to you, either by e-mail or at the pre-event briefing.
REMINDER – Harlech Triathlon is a non-drafting
event and bans any crossing of white lines in the centre of roads. These
requirements, together with conformance with the safety code and the “rules
of the road” will be monitored by motor cycle referees and mobile marshals.
Penalties will be applied to those who infringe.

Push your bike from the Dismount Now
sign to the bike in gate – follow instructions given by gate marshal
Follow the marked route to return
your bike to its rack – ensure that it is secure before unfastening helmet
Leave for the run using the run
out gate close to the goal
Follow the indicated route to a
second gate in the corner of the field – continue to follow the marked run
TEAMS – follow above
procedures, except that the runner stands by the bike rack location. The Bike
must be placed on the rack and the NUMBER and TIMING CHIP passed to the runner

Leave transition using the exit in the corner of the field
Run past the Band hall and towards the tennis court
Follow the path right along the back of the tennis court
Turn left through the gate and over the railway line
Continue through the next gate until you reach the main road - turn right
onto the footpath
Bear right onto the drive / track and follow this until you reach the gated
Pass through the two
gates to cross the railway line and follow the path to the left past the 17th tee.

Drop down onto the beach and turn left towards the flag - you must pass the

Return along the beach
towards the main beach access path – this will be clearly marked.

Follow the footpath from
beach to Beach Road car park. Please
take care at the crossing place for the golf course and when passing through
the gateway at the end.
Continue up Beach Road –
keep to the LEFT of
the road at all times.
Enter the School at the gate opposite the drive to the Swimming Pool
Follow signs to complete the loop in the school playing field
Exit from the School and turn left onto the foot path
Exit from the School and turn left onto the foot path

Cross the side road at Glan Gors
Follow the marshall’s instructions to cross the main A496
Turn right onto the path
Cross the railway line and follow the road round to the right

Finish Line Notes:
As you finish immediately hand in
your timing chip. “Finishers” who do not return chips will be charged £10.
